At least that’s my girls’ opinions.  Not mine!

We spent a great Saturday last weekend at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.  Great places off the beaten path in Washington DC.  The museums are attached and share a tremendous old building several blocks off of the Mall.

Even better is that they are located one block from Washington DC’s small, but authentic, Chinatown.  So what makes for a good day?  Train into DC, lunch in Chinatown at a  great local restaurant where they still make the rice noodles by hand (apparently becoming a rare find), and several hours with some fantastic art.  Of course, the girls may say differently, but a surprise end of day visit to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum lifted their spirits back up just in time for the ride home.

The redeeming thing, though, is that after all the walking and looking and reading…and complaining, in the end, they said they had a good time.  That’s a good day!
