We had a little shakin’ goin’ on tonight!

Irvine and the surrounding areas had some good little shaking going on tonight at around 9:30 p.m. (PDT) when a 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook the area.  The epicenter was down in Newport Beach, only about 4 miles from the house.  It’s always a little weird to have your house start popping and creaking all around you, and it comes out of nowhere.

The link below takes you to the USGS website for more details.

Part of the joys of living in Southern California!

  1. Ya never remember to tell me about these things……………
Do you remember that when we lived in E’ville in the ’80’s a 4. earthquake occurred on the New Madrid fault? Tall buildings (?) in E’ville shook , but very little damage was reported.
    GA also is not imune..
Oh, I added earthquake ins. two years ago, with the New Madrid fault in mind…..

  2. Why worry you when it’s just a little bit of a “shimmy”?!?!
I don’t remember the quake in Evansville. Too young I guess.
We can’t afford earthquake insurance out here! It would double our premiums, and the deductible is over $50,000!
